Get Away With the Family on a Summer Cruise

One terrific thing about the end of winter is that it’s the perfect time to plan a summer family vacation. A cruise that offers great activities and relaxation for the whole family – together and separately – may be the perfect choice. Why? There are lots of reasons:

You can select a cruise to suit your schedule and budget. Whether you can get away for a weekend, a week or a month, there are cruises to fit your schedule. And, accommodations range from cost-efficient inside staterooms to luxury suites. As for destinations, there’s Alaska, the Caribbean, Bermuda, New England and Canada, the Mediterranean, Northern Europe and more. Your Cruise Holidays personal cruise expert can help you sort through all the options.

You can choose accommodations that are right for your family. There are staterooms and suites designed for families of 2 to 10 members or more.

You may be able to drive to your ship. In summer, cruises sail from a variety of North American ports, including Seattle, Vancouver, Montreal, San Diego, Galveston, New Orleans, Charleston, Baltimore, New York City and Boston, as well as the traditional Florida ports of Tampa, Miami and Fort Lauderdale.

You can choose a ship with "kids’ club” activities. Organized and supervised, these clubs let your kids hang out and have fun with others their age. This will also give you a chance to work out, attend a class, or just read a book by the pool for a while. Activities vary by cruise line and by ship – again, your Cruise Holidays expert can be your guide.

You can spend fun time together. Pool decks are often the center of family fun on a cruise ship, and many ships also offer sport courts, Ping-Pong tables, shuffleboard courts, game rooms, movies, shows and craft activities that families can enjoy together. The number of water activities for kids of all ages is rapidly expanding.

Everyone will like the food. A formal dinner in the main dining room is delightful, but most ships also have more casual dining options for families, such as Lido Deck buffets, pizza stands and room service. Cruise ship chefs aim to please, and have been known to produce grilled cheese or peanut butter sandwiches for guests who won’t eat anything else.

You can have great family adventures off the ship, too, by choosing from a variety of shore excursions. To find out more about summer cruise getaways, talk with your Cruise Holidays personal cruise expert.
